Dharti (2011) has had an bumper opening at the box office in India, Canada, US, Australia & New Zealand but UK has played a huge spoilsport. Checking out the box office figures of Dharti (2010), one is surely going to get a shocker by looking at the UK collections.

After having a record weekend gross of 1.70 crores in India, Dharti has also grossed a record $375,000 overseas on just 45 prints. With this, the combined weekend gross of Dharti is 3.40 Crores, which is the biggest opening weekend for a Punjabi film beating Mel Karade Rabba (2010) by the same team that collected 2.8 Crores. Dharti (2011) has grossed 20% higher than Mel Karade Rabba (2010).

Breakup:
India: 1.67 Crores - Excellent
Australia: $136,000 - Bumper
N. America: $162,000 - Excellent
UK: £18000 on 7 Screens - Under performed

Though the opening weekend is a record for any Punjabi film ever, the expected weekend gross of 4 crores at the Box Office could not be fulfilled. Some of the reasons that went against the film are the serious political theme, no room for romance or comedy, length of the film (just 2 hours and 6 minutes), UK under performance and also some part of the media/fans being extremely critical about the film. It must be noted that among all these negative factors against it, Dharti (2011) has scored huge 1st weekend and drops of 30-35% on monday can still ensure it to be among the top 3 biggest grosser of All Time in Punjabi Cinema.

Dharti takes a Bumper Opening at the Box Office. The range is between 90-100% in the morning shows and 100% from there on.
Dharti (2011) has collected 2.65 crores in India beating the 1st week record of the Mel Karade Rabba (2010). This Navaniat Singh directed film has earlier taken a bumper opening and an excellent weekend but eventually saw drops from Monday.

Dharti (2011) continues its successful run at the box office by collecting 1.10 crores in the second weekend (worldwide).

In India, Dharti (2011) collected 46 lacs in second weekend taking its total domestic gross to 3.06 crores.


Overseas collections of Dharti (2011) are as follows:

UK- 10,800 on 6 screens. (Total - 37000 / Rs. 28 lacs)

Australia - $34,000 on 10 screens (Total - $245,000 / Rs. 1.20 crores)

North America - $85,000 on 21 screens (Total - $340,000 / Rs. 1.65 Crores)


The total collections of Dharti (2011) for the first 10 days are 6.19 crores. It is currently the 6th highest grosser of Punjabi Cinema after Mel Karade Rabba (2010), Dil Apna Punjabi (2006), Mera Pind - My Home (2008), Des Hoya Pardes (2004) & Ekam (2010).

Dharti collected 20 lacs in its 3rd weekend taking its total domestic gross to 3.45 crores. Dharti (2011) had its first major fall in week 2 but managed to have a better 3rd weekend.


The total worldwide collections of Dharti (2011) for the first 17 days is 7 crore +. It is the 3rd highest grosser of Punjabi Cinema after Mel Karade Rabba (2010) & Dil Apna Punjabi (2006) which collected 10.5 & 9.5 Crores respectively.


Dharti (2011) also establishes Jimmy Sheirgill as the most bankable star of Punjabi Cinema with All Time Blockbuster Mel Karade Rabba (2010) & Super hits [Dharti (2011), Munde UK De (2009), Tera Mera Ki Rishta (2009), Yaaran Naal Baharan (2005)]. His Mannat (2006) was an average hit.

DHARTI COLLECTIONS FOR FIRST 3 WEEKS.....
Dharti collects 30 lacs in week 3 (India). Verdict- Super Hit (India), Blockbuster (Overseas).
The total overall Dharti collections have crossed 7.5 Cr, i.e India & overseas. It is still going strong in north america and australia. England has been on the slower side. Still running good in Punjab and in Bombay. But it wonot be able to cross the 10 Cr mark set by Mel Karade Rabba.
