Dengue spreads in district, 165 cases in a month

Dengue scare has gripped Haridwar district with more than 165 cases being reported in the past one month.The suburban areas of Kankhal and Jwalapur are the most affected with the maximum dengue of patients coming from these two pockets.
In the past two days, more than 20 patients have been confirmed to be suffering from dengue, with more patients getting admitted to government and private hospitals every day.
District Malaria Officer Guru Nam Singh said prevention and awareness was needed to tackle the menace. Monitoring of suspected and confirmed dengue patients was being done at both government and private hospitals, he added.
The non-functional Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Chaman Rai Hospital in the district adding to the woes of the patients. The ICU unit was damaged due to a short circuit last month but had not been repaired till date. District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr Sushma Gupta said the ICU would be made operational soon and she had held talks with the CMS in this regard.
In wake of rising dengue cases, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has started holding cleanliness and awareness drives in the Kankhal, Jwalapur and Bhimgoda areas.
Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Vipra Trivedi is monitoring the drive and the help of NGOs is being taken for generating awareness about precautionary measures, prevention and cure of dengue.
Meanwhile, the Mahanagar Congress Committee has expressed resentment at the attitude of Mayor Manoj Garg, city legislator Madan Kaushik and MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank towards the spread of dengue in the district.
General secretary of the Congress Labour Cell Akash Sharma alleged that no public representative had directed the health and civic body officials to take steps to check the spread of dengue.
