A 25-year-old woman was set on fire allegedly by her neighbour Abhishek in Mukundpur area of Delhi on Saturday after she rejected his marriage proposal and accused him of harassment.
This was not all. The family of the accused also allegedly assaulted the woman’s family members, including her mother and brother.
The woman was admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where the doctors reported that she suffered 70% burns. She was later shifted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital in central Delhi as her condition grew critical.
Delhi Police arrested Abhishek, his brother Karan and their uncle, Vijay under sections 323 (hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house trespass) and 34 (common intention) of IPC was registered against them at the Bhalswa Dairy police station.
The FIR has been launched by the victim’s brother, who in his complaint said that his sister received a message from Abhishek on her mobile phone asking her to meet him on Saturday at 11 pm. In the message, Abhishek threatened to kill her if she failed to meet him.
She showed the message to his brother who then met Abhishek and rebuked him for threatening his sister. Abhishek apologised and assured him that he would not harass his sister again.
However, on returning home after some time the brother found Vijay, Abhishek’s uncle, arguing with his mother and verbally abusing her. When he protested, Vijay pushed his mother due to which she fell on the stairs. Vijay called Abhishek, Karan, and others and they allegedly attacked the brother. They then entered the woman’s room and poured kerosene on her and set her on fire and fled the house. Some other neighbours came to her rescue and took her to hospital.
The police found out that Abhishek was in a relationship with the woman. However, her family members disapproved it and asked her to not meet him. The girl also stopped talking to Abhishek. But Abhishek tried to convince her and continue their relationship
