In stories in which we hear acts of rather courage and heroism, it seems like the world is still a helpful place to stay.
On September 2, Delhi floods which sagged most of the roads in the capital brought bedlam as the water levels in the low-lying areas increased to scary levels and the result of which was that a school bus at the South-Delhi underpass got struck in the chaos. All the 70 school children inside the bus climbed to the top of the bus in order to save themselves. On among the two school teachers in the bus made a call to the Police control room and a van immediately was sent for rescue.
ASI Chokhe Lal was driving with Murari Lal in the van and within no time they saw that the bus was going to be drowned if not rescued as soon as possible and the lives of the school kids would go with the bus. At the thought of that Murari Lal jumped into the sewage mixed water without any second thoughts and swam to the bus where he carried every single child on his shoulder one by one and started to rescue the children swimming back and forth. Watching the situation other cops helped build human chain to accelerate the process. Meanwhile, the inspector who didn’t know how to swim went neck-deep into water to carry kids off the shoulder of Murari Lal.Until the fire department truck arrived, 16 kids have been already saved. Murari Lal swam for an hour and a half to save the little lives.
Murari Lal even suffered from a skin infection due to the sewage mixed water he swam in.
The Deputy Commissioner of Delhi , R.K Bansal announced to reward Murari and the inspector for their humane efforts.
