Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi has been convicted on charges of human trafficking by the Patiala House court. The court has pronounced a two-year jail term for the singer.
Daler Mehndi was immediately granted bail in the case.
A case was registered against Daler Mehndi in 2003 and he was accused of illegally sending people abroad disguised as members of his troupes. He also charged huge sums of money for doing the same.
During 1998 and 1999, Daler Mehndi took at least 10 people as a part of his troupe and dropped them off illegally in San Fransico and New Jersey.
A case was registered against Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh. After the case was registered, some 35 complaints surfaced against the two brothers.
