Amritsar October 17:

A day after People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Badal asked Team Anna to support the ‘non-corrupt’ Third Front in the state in the forthcoming Assembly elections, the Dal Khalsa slammed the former finance minister saying he wants to seek political mileage out of the social activist’s anti-corruption crusade.

It also slammed both the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) for ruining Punjab financially and putting up a false display of rooting out corruption from the state. Party’s secretary for political affairs, Kanwar Pal Singh, said that Manpreet, who called SAD (B)-led government corrupt, was once a part of the `kitchen cabinet’ of the Badals. How can he expect the people of the state to believe that he is clean, asked Singh.

“The people are not naïve. Manpreet would have to go a long way as Punjab has witnessed bipolar polity and the role of the Third Front has been negligible so far. Ironically, politicians with ‘unclean hands/ are asking Anna’s support against corruption,” he added. Referring to Anna Hazare’s announcement to go on indefinite maun varat (vow of silence), they said the social activist was now dramatizing his anti-graft campaign to remain in news.

Saravkar Singh, youth leader of the organisation said Anna, who claims to be a Gandhian, was being backed by the RSS, the party nursing Hindutva ideology and who’s member Nathuram Godse had assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. Describing it as a paradox, he said, it is strange that Anna is locked in a bitter war of words with the Congress party, with whose support Gandhi fought for independence.
