A CRPF jawan died while many pilgrims were feared trapped in a landslide near the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi on Wednesday at around 12:45pm.
The dead has been identified as head constable Harbinger Singh of 6 Battalion of CRPF, a native of Hoshiarpur in Punjab.
The jawan was on duty at Gate number 3 near the cave shrine when the landslide occurred.
“Death toll is likely to go up as we fear many pilgrims are buried under the debris,” said a police officer.
Rescue teams have been rushed to the site and the yatra has been suspended for the time being, he added.
