A Judicial Magistrate Court in Melur has directed Dhanush to appear before the court, based on a petition filed by an elderly couple, claiming that they were his real parents.
Kathiresan and Meenakshi, the residents of Mallampati in Melur, have also produced Dhanush's birth certificate and some childhood photographs.

According to the couple, Dhanush, whose real name was Kalaiselvan, was born at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. He did his schooling upto standard X at RC Higher Secondary School and Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Melur.

They were quoted by Free Press Journal as saying, "We named him Kalaichelvan and enrolled him in a school in Melur. When he completed class X, we got him admitted in class XI in a school in Sivaganga district. But he dropped out and moved to Chennai and changed his name to Dhanush K Raja and entered the world of cinema."
The couple also claimed that they tried to meet Dhanush several times, but they were denied permission.

Kathiresan and Meenakshi have now approached the court, requesting a monthly maintenance of Rs 65,000 from Dhanush.

Based on the petition, the court has summoned Dhanush on January 12.

Dhanush, is the younger son of producer Kasthuri Raja and Vijayalakshmi. He was launched into filmdom by his father with Thulluvadho Ilamai.
