While Congress General Secretary Gulam Nabi Azad has assured the Telangana Congress leaders that he will submit his report to the "national leadership", including the Prime Minister, in two days, the Congress high command and the central government do not appear to be in the mood or position to take a quick decision on the demand for a separate Telangana.

Azad's remarks — that even after his consultations with Congress leaders from Telangna, Andhra and Rayal Seema, there was a need for wider consultations at the national level — have come as a dampener for many in his own party.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti, the main political force in the agitation, dismissed his statement as inconsequential. "Telangana is not an internal issue of the Congress to be left to party president Sonia Gandhi. It is the demand of 45 million people of the region", said TRS legislator K. Taraka Rama Rao.
