Raising the issue of pending Rs 107 crore second installment of ambitious Rs 922 crore Swan River Channelization Project of Una district, Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today met the Union Health Minister JP Nadda at New Delhi and urged him to intervene for early clearance of various pending central sponsored projects of the state.
He requested Nadda to pursue the matter with Union Ministry of Water Resources so that the work on this project could be accelerated.
Appraising the Union Minister that the execution of this project was being done by the Centre and the state government in the ratio of 70:30, he said that the state government was endeavouring to complete the project in a stipulated time in spite of financial constraints.
The Chief Minister also raised various issues related to health sector and urged him to lay foundation stone of proposed AIIMS at Bilaspur so that the work on this mega project could be started soon. He said the state government was committed to provide modern health facilities in Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital and said that health facilities related with heart diseases were being provided in the hospitals. He said the state government had formulated a project of Rs 218 crore for upgradation of these facilities. A proposal in this regard would soon be sent to the Central Government. He urged Nadda to sanction this project at the earliest.
Singh also requested the Union Health Minister to release sanctioned Central assistance of Rs 150 crore for a trauma centre for IGMC, Shimla. He requested him to release an amount for three medical colleges being set up in Chamba, Hamirpur and Sirmaur districts so that work could be started soon. He apprised that only Rs. 12.5 crore had been released for these colleges.
The Chief Minister also discussed various projects of education, health and social services sectors and said that in view of tough topography of the state, the construction cost of the projects always escalated. Hence, the state expected liberal Central assistance to complete the projects.
Meanwhile, state Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur also met the Union Health Ministry and urged him to provide medical equipment for the newly constructed specialized medical block of Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda in Kangra district.
Thakur told Nadda that the construction of this block had been completed in 2014. Medical equipment amounting to almost Rs. 150 crore had to be set up out of which Rs 125 crore had to be provided by union government
He also pleaded for making the ESI Hospital, Ner Chowk in Mandi district functional. The Union Health Minister assured the Chief Minister that their demands would be considered sympathetically and said that Central Government would provide liberal assistance for the development of the state.
