Chandigarh July 10:

Following the announcements of spending nights in the villages during Sangat Darshan by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, a classroom in which he stayed was converted into a well-equipped AC room.

During Badals’ three-day Sangat Darshan in Muktsar which started from Lambi on Thursday, his Assembly constituency, at first night he stayed at a senior secondary school located in Chapianwali village. As soon as the school staff was informed about the CM’s stay, announcement was made to close the school for a while. A classroom was hurriedly converted into an air-conditioned bedroom while another was turned into a makeshift toilet with the help of school and the Government staff members.

Officials at public relations department confirmed that the Chief Minister went to the senior secondary school at Chapianwali. However, they refused to comment on the arrangements made for Badal. On the second day, Badal’s caravan moved to Gidderbaha, constituency of rebel Akali leader Manpreet Badal. After participating at a keertan in a gurdwara located in Kotbhai village, the CM moved to Adarsh School, where his entourage got the same facilities.

The CM headed to Malaut which was chosen for the CM’s Sangat Darshan. Authorities removed computers from a lab and installed a water closet, a wash basin and an exhaust fan and put curtains on the window. The irony of the visit was that though Badal heard grievances of the villagers at the school during the day, no one bothered to point out to the CM that the school didn’t have enough teachers for subjects such as English, History and Physical Education.

When contacted SAD official spokesperson DS Cheema, said the visit should not be projected in a negative way. He dismissed any allegations of misuse of the Government machinery. “It does not matter where he stays, he (Badal) wants to live amongst the people,” said Cheema. Cheema said with this practice, Badal will get to know more about the problems of the people living in that area. As the Assembly election is getting closer, Badal has increased the frequency of holding Sangat Darshan (sessions to address public grievance).
