HYDERABAD, JULY 5:
The Confederation of Indian Industry, Andhra Pradesh, has expressed concern over the State Government move to impose additional power cuts to industry to support the farm sector.

It felt that shortage of power for the industries would have adverse impact on industrial growth in the State.

“We understand that the State Government may impose further power cuts to industrial sectors to ensure power supply to other sectors if the present dry spell continues,” said Ms Suchitra Ella, Chairperson, CII Andhra Pradesh and Joint Managing Director, Bharat Biotech International Ltd.

She felt that industry already facing two-day power holiday in a week, is not ready for further cuts, she said.

While it is necessary to ensure continuous seven hours power supply to agriculture for accelerating growth, the Government should have generated required additional power rather than proposing to cut power to the industry, she said.

The CII emphasised the need for planning to manage requirements of the industry by purchasing the required power.

This is possible through planning, she added.

“It is important to ensure adequate supply of gas to all gas-based power plants in the State to run in their full capacity,” she said.
