Chris Brown Assaulted Rihanna? Arrested?

Chris Brown Arrested For Alleged Assault; Rihanna Said to be Alleged Victim

If you were watching the Grammys last night wondering why Chris Brown wasn't there, you'll be surprised to know why. Chris Brown was arrested last night on a "criminal threat" in Los Angeles. Brown allegedly struck a woman inside of his sports car.
If the assault report isn't shocking enough for you, the alleged victim is even more of a shock. According to the Los Angeles Time and E! News, the victim is supposedly Chris Brown's girlfriend and megastar in her own right, Rihanna. The reason why the victim wasn't identified immediately was allegedly due to Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, using an alias at a local hospital where she was treated for some visible injuries and released. TMZ.com is also reporting that Brown used a deadly weapon in the assault. The two were dating for about a year when this incident occurred.
Chris Brown and Rihanna were hip-hop's biggest couple after Beyonce and Jay-Z. The appeal that they had to most people was that they were both young and successful. Chris Brown, 19 and Rihanna, 18, are each coming off of double platinum albums and are global superstars. Chris Brown jumped on the remix to Rihanna's biggest hit to date, 'Umbrella.' Everything seemed so rosy with this couple, which makes news of this incident even more of a surprise.
Because of this arrest, he was not present at the red carpet or at the actual telecast, where he was scheduled to perform his smash hit 'Forever.' Rihanna, too, was scheduled to perform at the Grammys yet also no-showed the event. Justin Timberlake and Al Green filled in Rihanna's spot on the performance roster. Brown was released on $50,000 bail. No charges have been filed, but lawyers and insiders have said that domestic violence charges depending on the severity of the crime could carry penalties upwards of nine years in prison.
It was a touchy subject for those close to Chris Brown and Rihanna to answer, with most artists flat out refusing to answer any questions regarding the event. Jay-Z did not want to answer any questions following the Grammys and Kanye West, who was at a post-Grammy party that his record label Def Jam Records held, shooed away a reporter attempting to ask for his take on the situation. Busta Rhymes had one of the only quotes anyone had on the subject, but it was a poignant one as details from this alleged assault are still developing.
"From my mouth to God's ears, we have to respect their space," Rhymes said. "We should say our prayers for them."
This was by far the biggest news of Grammy night. Let's just hope all of this is overblown because assaulting someone with a deadly weapon just isn't cool in any way. Tell us your thoughts on this still developing story and what you think the fallout will be from this incident.
