VANCOUVER: May 18: A Sikh youth has been shot dead in the driveway of his posh home in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.

Chhminder Singh Gill, a 32-year-old Sikh youth, has been shot dead in the driveway of his posh home in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.

The local media said that 32- year-old Gill, who was killed on Sunday, may have been targeted for his possible criminal links, however, the police have not said anything about it yet.

A police spokesman said they are investigating his business links.

"We still have a lot of work ahead of us to figure out who he is linked to and what he is up to. But definitely he was the intended target of this from what we have learned so far," he told the local media.

Gill lived a posh life with wife Jasvir in a seven-bedroom home valued at $754,000. A farmer as well as a businessman, Gill had a partnership in a blueberry farm and his own independent enterprise.

One of the fastest growing cities in Canada, Surrey is home to the largest concentration of the Punjabi-Sikh community in Canada.

Violence among Indo-Canadian drug gangs here has led to more than 100 deaths over the years, forcing the provincial British Columbia Government to set up a gang task force. But it has failed to solve any of these murders.
