CHANDIGARH: Noting the desire of Punjab Government to set up a Metro project in Ludhiana, Canada on Thursday offered to provide the total transit system and assist in the project.

Canadian Counsel General Helen Amundsen called on Sukhbir Singh Badal, Acting President Shiromani Akali Dal (B) on Thursday and said that Canadian companies like Bombardier could provide the total transit system and assist in setting up the project from concept to completion.

She intimated that Bombardier has been selected by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to supply 85 trains for its phase 2, Delhi. It is now added to its long list of important Metros like New York, Paris, London, Berlin and Shanghai.

The counsel General suggested that the Canadian company would like to participate in tendering process and would like to assist the Government in putting the project on the ground by an early date.

Sukhbir indicated that the Punjab government was very keen to give a thrust to the dairy sector as it provides substantial employment and income-generating opportunities to the rural people in Punjab. He welcomed the Canadian technology and know-how in the dairy sector and he promised assistance for the early development of the projects in this sector.

Canada has a capacity to make large investments in the infrastructure and power sector and the Canadian Government offered to assist in the early setting up of the Shahpur Kandi Dam in Punjab and other power projects in Punjab.
