A CANADIAN Indian origin flight attendant who smuggled £250,000 ($392,000) worth of cocaine into Britain because Canadian flight crew were ignored by UK customs officers has been jailed for eight years.

London: Mandeep Shahi, 27, who teamed up with a former schoolboy to smuggle four kilogrammes worth of cocaine into the country, was sent to jail by jury at Southwark Crown Court for knowingly being a unwitting drugs mule.
Mandeep Shahi made the drug run on board and Air Canada flight from Pearson in Canada to Heathrow airport last March.

Judge Gledhill said the Air Hostess took advantage of lack of security checks on Air Canada staff as they flew into Heathrow The report said the 27-year-old Air Hostess took advantage of lax security while working for Air Canada to smuggle four kilos of the drug on board in her luggage on March 26 this year.
Shahi was sentenced for her role in what the police call a “cocaine conspiracy” to import at least four kilogrammes of cocaine. PTI

She passed easily through security at Heathrow in March and delivered the blue Air Canada bag containing the drugs to Briton Simon Howard-Harwood, 28, at a hotel in London’s Regent's Park.The bag was later passed on to retired cab driver Ghulem Malik, 53 who was caught by the police.She was caught by an undercover police operation which linked her to an illicit drug network that was dealing imported cocaine and marijuana on the streets of the British capital.However she wasn't arrested at that time but in August when she returned to London as part of Air Canada’s flight crew.

A subsequent search of the main dealer Howard-Harwood's hotel room turned up three more kilograms of the drug.Officers then seized 25kg of cannabis resin from a London safe house connected to the gang.
