Even as TRAI is gearing up to start testing the telecom networks in Delhi and Mumbai from September 28 to ascertain whether operators have taken measures to address the call drop menace, the telecom operators have expressed unhappiness over recommendation that wireless users should be compensated for call drops.
TRAI chairman RS Sharma today said the test drive in Delhi and Mumbai would start from September 28, the last day for receiving comments on the call drop solution being recommended by the regulator. The testing comes in the backdrop of TRAI floating a discussion paper and having discussions with CEOs of the service providers over the issue. After meeting CEOs of telcos on September 9, the service providers had been given 15 days time to take steps to address the call drop problem.
The regulator would then hold an open house discussion on October 1, before coming out with a final policy in about a week’s time after that or by the middle of October.
Final policy by mid-October
