Ahmedabad: This World Cup will be a painful memory for many fans, literally. The mad rush to get hold of the limited available tickets had resulted in police resorting to lathi charges in many centres with fans getting injured in the process.
Taking this into consideration, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed that in future measures will be taken to ensure fans do not endure such pain.
Haroon Lorgat, the ICC Chief Executive, when questioned on the hassles one has to go through in getting tickets, said: "There's always a better way of doing certain things and there's a few lessons that we can learn from it. But the fact is that the demand has been absolutely phenomenal and no matter how well we tried, we could not fit the demand into the supply. We will surely review the process we have in place after every event."
Ahmedabad fans too had to endure police lathi charges after all tickets were sold out within one hour of the commencement of sales on Monday.
Still, one could see thousands waiting outside the stadium hoping to get tickets. This has resulted in heavy black marketeering and tickets worth Rs1,000 (around Dh82) are being sold for Rs10,000 (aroundDh820).
"We certainly don't tolerate black marketeering of tickets, and whenever we have identified such instances, the issue has been taken up and action deployed," said Lorgat.
