The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday reached out to the victims of the Bulandshahr gang rape incident and handed over allotment letters of two flats to the family.
“Two 1BHK flats have provided to the two women of the family in the Arthala locality of Ghaziabad under the ‘Shahri Awas Yojna.’ The flats are meant for residents who have been living in the district for more than three years and belong to the financially weaker background,” said district magistrate Nidhi Kesrwani.
She said the process of providing compensation under ‘Rani Laxmibai Mahila Samman Kosh’ scheme had been expedited and clearance would be received soon.
“The process of release of compensation from the chief minister’s fund is also under process from Bulandshahr authorities,” Kesrwani said.

The flat allotment letters are in the name of two women who were gangraped for almost three hours after being stopped and held captive by a gang of robbers on the intervening night of July 29-30 in Bulandshahr.
“The allotment letters were handed over Thursday evening. We were given a choice of three places and we chose Arthala because it is closer to the upcoming Metro link,” said uncle of the victim girl.
The family will now have to deposit an earnest amount to get possession and will not be able to sell the flats before 10 years as per norms under the scheme.
