Amritsar May 24:
Chief secretary Ramesh Inder Singh said appointed Manmohan Singh Brar, a former Akali MLA and close confidant of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, as new president of the prestigious Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission (SGJC).
He replaces Kashmir Singh Patti, who was indicted following a high-level probe, conducted by a senior IAS officer. Patti, who was given five days to give reply to a show-cause notice, had sent his resignation under protest.
A spokesman of the state government confirmed that Brar had replaced Patti as president of the SGJC. It may be recalled that Brar was president of the SGJC twice during the stint of Badal as Chief Minister.
