The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Sanjeev Nanda, who is undergoing a five-year jail term in the BMW hit-and-run case.

The court had on Tuesday issued notice to the police on a bail plea filed by Nanda.

Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Nanda, had pleaded for bail on the ground that his grandfather S M Nanda, ex-Naval Chief, was not well and wanted to see him as he was his only grandson.

Justice Kailash Gambhir had, however, expressed reservations saying that the criminal appeal filed by Nanda had already reached the final stages.

Jethmalani, while seeking bail for Sanjeev, referred to "excellent" service rendered by Nanda's grandfather to the nation.

"He (S M Nanda) was a man of excellent credentials, who served the nation throughout his life. He was the man who took a boat and went alone to Karachi in 1971 (during the Indo-Pakistani war) to bomb the city. He is now above 90 years of age and is losing his memory. Whenever he gets back his memory, he remembers his only grandson," Jethmalani had said while seeking bail for the convict.

The court then agreed to hear the plea and issued notice to Delhi Police.

Nanda, son of arms dealer Suresh Nanda, was sentenced to five-year jail term on September 2 for killing six persons including three policemen by his BMW car in the wee hours of January 10, 1999 at Lodhi Colony in New Delhi.

Fault is with the guys who were sleeping there on the footpath alongside road.
They should have find the good place to sleep. They risked their life delibrately.
BMW (the ultimate driving machine) is a fast vehicle it can go 5-6 feet left or right on the road.
