The BJP has sought 10 more days from Governor NN Vohra to resolve some issues pertaining to government formation with its ally Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
BJP president Sat Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma today met the Governor to apprise him of its positions with regard to government formation.
“We have sought 10-day time from the Governor so that certain pending issues could be resolved with our ally PDP,” said Nirmal Singh after he came out from the meeting at Raj Bhawan. The meeting with the Governor lasted 56 minutes.
Nirmal Singh said the alliance with the PDP had been formed for six years and the party was largely in favour of continuing it for the whole period.
“The coalition was formed after great understanding between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed with a great vision for Jammu and Kashmir. If the latter would have been alive today, both parties would have jointly introspected on the one-year tenure vis-à-vis the 'Agenda of Alliance' and its further implementation in the state,” he said.
On a query over assurances demanded by the PDP for government formation, Nirmal Singh said, “We have not received anything officially regarding demands on assurances. We are coalition partners and can sit across to resolves the issues, if there are any.”
The BJP MLA and the former Deputy Chief Minister, however, said that since the party had not received any official communication on the election of the leader of its ally, it was being seen as the only constitutional impediment in furthering government formation.
“Constitutionally, there has to be a leader from the party with whom the coalition has to go along. The PDP needs to elect its leader first and forward its name to the Governor, then only can the constitutional process of government formation move ahead,” he said.
The BJP leader said all issues would be resolved within the ambit of the “Agenda of Alliance”.
