New Delhi June 24:

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal along with Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and requested him to have a lenient approach towards Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar by converting his death sentence into life imprisonment.

However, this was not the only issue for which Badal met the Prime Minister. The CM also urged the PM for his personal intervention for early elections of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Badal said that it was very unfortunate that the elections for SGPC, a supreme organisation of the Sikhs, was being delayed unnecessarily whereas all the other elections across the country were being held according to their schedule.

Badal also expressed his gratitude to the PM for showing concern during the days of his wife late Surinder Kaur Badal’s illness by keeping regular contact with the family even during his foreign trips and later for sharing heartfelt condolences with the family after her demise. They also requested him to lay the foundation stone of the international airport being set up at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali).

Taking up the issue of shortage of storage capacity for the food grains in the State, Badal strongly recommended for enhancing storage capacity in the State as presently there was a requirement of storage infrastructure of 49 lakh MT capacity for the coming paddy season.
