Punjab News Badal announces sentence remission for prisoners on Baisakhi

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced to grant remission of sentence upto one year to convicted prisoners in the state on April 14, the auspicious occasion of 'Baisakhi.'

A decision to this effect was taken by Mr Badal in a high level meeting here to review the various ongoing activities and initiatives for the development of jails to ensure congenial atmosphere to the inmates undergoing imprisonment. Remission of one year would be granted to the prisoners who had been awarded imprisonment from 10 to 20 years.

Likewise, remission of 9 months would be granted for a jail term of 7 to 10 years, 6 months for a term of 5 to 7 years, 3 months for a term of 3 to 5 years and 2 month for a term of less than 3 years on the pious occasion of Baisakhi, an official spokesman said. However, the remission would not be granted to a person convicted in heinous crimes.
