Chandigarh October 1:
UT police registered a case for negligent driving and kidnapping against an army jawan on Tuesday. The jawan, SN Yadav, was driving the army truck (2445727) that was allegedly involved in an accident with a Maruti Zen car at the airport light point on Sunday.
The car belonged to Sector-15 resident Sanjeev Nehra, who was going to the airport with his wife. Sources said when Nehra asked Yadav for damages, the jawan started to threaten him. Police officials said that when a crowd began to gather at the spot, the army personnel, including Yadav, bundled Nehra in their truck and took him to the transit camp in Behlana village.
Sector-31 SHO Bhupinder Singh said they took Nehra against his wishes and kept him confined for more than an hour saying senior army officers wanted to meet him. No such thing happened and the personnel also refused to compensate him, said the police.
Senior police officials maintained that it would not be easy to arrest the jawan because central government sanction was needed to do so. The army truck allegedly involved in the accident can also not be impounded, they said. A case under sections 279, 427 and 363 of the IPC was registered.
