Jalandhar September 16:
Two Armymen and their accomplice allegedly killed a taxi driver after kidnapping him last year.
The accused include Baljit Singh, alias Balli, and Amritpal Singh, alias Kala, both Armymen and Fatehgarh Churian residents, and Bhinder Singh, alias Lucky, of Gidderbaha. Both Bhinder and Balli were on a one-month leave when they committed the crime. Bhinder was arrested a few days ago and he spilled the beans during interrogation.
Notably, Vikas Kumar of Kishanpura had complained on October 2, 2007, that some unidentified persons had hired his taxi and then kidnapped the driver, Rakesh Kumar. A kidnapping case was registered and on October 9, 2007, police arrested Baljit and Amritpal, who were driving the taxi without number-plate.
But the police did not interrogate them properly. They did not even ask them from where they took the numberless taxi. Later, both managed to get bail and are now absconding. Now, with the arrest of Bhinder, police have started backslapping themselves.
Bhinder has confessed that the trio had killed the taxi driver after strangulating him and snatched his mobile phone and purse before throwing his body into the Sutlej. SSP Pawan Rai said Bhinder and Baljit were with two Rashtriya Rifles and 119 Engineers Battalion, Chandimandir, respectively.
