At its recently concluded keynote event, Apple launched its brand new wireless headphones. Dubbed Apple AirPods, the two headphones let users access the company's digital assistant Siri by tapping gestures. In addition, functions like changing tracks and controlling volume can be executed by double tapping on the headphones as well.
Apple AirPods come with their own charging-cum-carrying case and are priced at $159 in the US and Rs 15,400 in India. They'll be available on the company website as well as physical retail stores. The headphones work with Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 and macOS Sierra, and will be available in India starting October.

The wireless in-ear headphones are powered by an ultra-low power Apple-designed W1 chip. The chip lets AirPods deliver high-quality audio and better battery life. Furthermore, there are optical sensors and accelerometers in each AirPod that automatically detect when they are plugged into the ears. Removing them automatically pauses the music, thus saving battery life. It is also possible to remove one of the Airpods from the ears for having a conversation and then plug it back to resume listening to music.

pple says that the W1 chip operates on one-third of the power of traditional wireless chips, delivering up to 5 hours of listing time.
"AirPods are the first headphones to deliver a breakthrough wireless audio experience, and with the new Apple W1 chip they deliver innovative features including high quality sound, great battery life and automatic setup," said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

"AirPods are simple and magical to use, with no switches or buttons, automatically connecting to all your Apple devices simply and seamlessly and letting you access Siri with just a double tap. We can't wait for users to try them with iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2."
The company, as rumoured before, has also ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack in its iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus smartphones. The new devices connect with headphones using the Lightning port. The company will also be shipping a Lightning to 3.5mm adaptor for those who want to use 3.5mm headphones with the new iPhones
