Hacktivist group Anonymous continued its campaigns, this time targeting the government servers in Iran. The list of the targets includes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the country’s Passport and Visa office, where more than 10,000 emails were leaked.

Anonymous has successfully leaked over 10,000 so-called “top secret” emails from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs: today all the letters are available for the entire world to download through MediaFire or through numerous file-sharing services. The activist group admitted that they got the files easily, by obtaining access to the country’s Passport and Visa Office email center.

According to the International Business Times, of all 10,000 emails the most part looks like visa applications for some “oil meeting”, with the majority of the visitors coming from China. It was also reported that the Iranian government has been trying over the last week to hide the issue from the public eye. However, that appeared to be a dumb hope, if you remember who was responsible for the attack.

Hacktivist group claimed that the primary purpose of the attack was to damage the country’s image in both Internet community and the real world. They probably achieved what they wanted – at least, the site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran remained offline for a long time.

This declaration was made by the hackers before the official launch of “Operation Iran” a month ago. Anonymous announced it was going to act to support the Iranian citizens who have been repressed by their government. The group published an appeal to the Iranian people, convincing them that their rights belong to them, and encouraging the people fight for their right to free speech and free press, as well as the freedom to assemble and to be safe. In other words, the group advocated the right to live free and without fear, promising support to the Iranians, claiming: “as Labor Day dawns – we stand with you!”

As you might remember, a couple of months ago the group launched similar “Operation Zimbabwe”, which included DDoS protest to target the country’s regime, because the latter had outlawed free press. More recently, the hacker group was reported to switch its efforts at hacking off UFO enthusiasts.
