Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt has alleged that the state government is deeply involved in corruption being undergoing in the police department in the name of promotion process in the state.
Ajay Bhatt while speaking to mediapersons said the state government had formulated such policies in the promotion process of Sub-Inspectors to Inspectors resulting in rampant corruption.
Bhatt said the state government on number of occasion had cited the Uttar Pradesh manual on the issue of promotion in the police department but had failed to follow the same procedure in Uttarakhand.
He further said the promotions were done on the basis of seniority but the government instead of selecting police personnel on seniority basis had introduced 10 marks for interview in the selection process.
Bhatt said the interview clause was not in the UP manual but was being introduced for the first time in Uttarakhand with the sole motive of earning money under table in the process.
He said around 70 posts of Inspectors were vacant and more than 115 sub-inspectors had challenged the selection process in the High Court.
Bhatt said the process was detrimental for the state and could lead to rebellion in police force. He further said the moral of the police department was at the lowest ebb under the present government with the kind of gift it had given to them.
Bhatt said new dimensions in corruption were being linked with the state government that had created a new record of corruption.
The government had limited itself to extortion and was being run by land mafias who were in dominant position under the present government.
Bhatt said he had complete faith in the courts who would show the way to this government.
