Airtel Internet TV launched; offers Android TV STB, 500+ channels and Netflix

Airtel has announced the launch of Airtel Internet TV, the launch of an internet-based streaming service for the company. The Airtel Internet TV will be powered by Airtel STB which is powered by Android TV out of the box. The device is priced at Rs 4,999 and it will be exclusively available on Amazon along with 3 months of free Airtel DTH subscription. The company detailed that it will give free data up to 25GB for existing Airtel Internet users depending on their plans.

Airtel has introduced a limited offer worth Rs 7,999 where you will get 1 year of free services that include all the HD and SD channels. The company has partnered with Eros to offer 3 month free subscription along with Netflix for the first free trial month. Airtel will also give away free TV games for users to play on the new device. The device is made by LG and comes with Google Chromecast certification and with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth along with Casting.

Airtel STB is the first 4K-capable streaming STB in India with Netflix and YouTube supplying the content. The STB is equipped with a Dual core ARM B15 processor, 2 GB RAM, 4K video at 60 fps support and support to 7.1 and 5.1 audio setups. It will also come with 8 GB internal storage that can be expanded to 128 GB using the microSD card slot and up to 2 TB using the USB port. Other features include Dolby Atmos support, ability to Play, Pause and Record capabilities. One interesting feature that the company emphasised is the inclusion of Voice search from the remote. The remote functions on Bluetooth instead of Infrared as conventional remote control units so you can sent voice queries to the STB to quickly search for content.

It comes along with Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.1 with BLE mode support, one USB 2.0 port, one USB 3.0 port, a microSD card slot, HDMI 2.0 port and Optical SPDIF. The company announced the launch of this new service to bring a product that can help users access content from Television as well as online streaming services like Netflix in one package. The service will support 500+ TV channels, pre-loaded Netflix app in addition to full Google Play Store support.

Users can download apps and games that are available on the Android ecosystem that can allow users to use all the apps and services as they would on a computer or laptop. The STB comes pre-loaded with Airtel Movies so Airtel users can watch movies on demand provided they have subscribed to the service. Users can also plugin microSD cards or pendrives in the STB to download and store movies, apps, games or other things.

The STB can also allow users to cast photos, videos or games on the large screen so that users can use smartphones are controllers in case of games using dedicated Android and iOS apps.
