The Allahabad high court on Monday granted three-week parole to Nupur Talwar, convicted in the murder of her daughter Aarushi, to visit her mother who is unwell. The court granted the parole observing that she may be allowed to take care of her ailing mother until her siblings return to the country.

Nupur, along with her husband Rajesh Talwar, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2013 for the murder of Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, destruction of evidence and common intention by a special CBI court. The judge opted to award the minimum punishment prescribed for the murders saying that the crime did not fall under the 'rarest of rare' category.
14-year-old Aarushi was found dead at her flat in Noida's Jalvayu Vihar in May, 2008.

The high-profile double murder case was handed over to the CBI by the then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati following an outcry over alleged shoddy investigation by the state police.
It was initially suspected that Hemraj had killed Aarushi. However, the case took a shocking turn when Hemraj's body was recovered two days later from the terrace of the same flat.
