A 63-year-old advocate, Ravi Shankar, reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in the Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, today. Shankar was a taxation lawyer and used to practise at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
He left a suicide note stating that he took the extreme step due to insomnia.
Shankar committed suicide when his wife and son had gone out for shopping to a mall in the Industrial Area. He had pledged his body to the PGI. Advocate Rohit Kaura, son of the deceased, informed the police about the incident. The victim’s son returned home around 2.30 pm and found the main door locked. He thought that his father had gone somewhere. He used a duplicate key to open the door. The incident came to light when the victim’s cell phone, which was in his pocket, started ringing.
The body has been kept at the mortuary in the PGI for a postmortem examination.
