Six state-of-the-art police control rooms in major cities of Punjab, including three in the Commissionerate cities of Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar, are set to become fully operational with DGP PS Gill today flagging off 42 GPS (global positioning system) and high-range wireless equipped new Tavera SUVs for them.

Speaking at a brief ceremony after flagging off the vehicles at the Police Headquarters here, the DGP said he was aiming to upgrade the communication infrastructure of the Punjab Police to the world-class level so that all control rooms could act in complete synergy to respond to any crisis in any part of the state.

He said each police control room would be under the direct supervision of a DIG-rank officer. — TNS
