RAJKOT: Depressed by her inability to produce a male child, a 40-year-old woman attempted to end her life by burning herself along with her three daughters in Chara village of Kodinar taluka in Junagadh district on Friday. While two of her daughters died, Puniben Rabari is struggling for life in a Junagadh city hospital.
Sources said that while one of the daughters who was torched managed to flee, the fourth one was away with her father at the time of the suicide attempt.
The girls who died have been identified as six-year-old Kajal and four-month-old Kadvi. Puniben allegedly chose to set herself ablaze along with her three daughters at their residence while her husband Vaju Rabari, who rears goats and sheep, was away.
Sources said that Puniben was depressed since the birth of Kadvi, her fourth girl child. Her first-born was a son who had died at the time of birth. A case has been registered against her for attempting suicide and murdering her two daughters.
