33 stolen vehicles recovered from gang

The arrest of a gang of vehicle thieves, including three juveniles, yesterday has turned out to be a feather in the cap for the UT police as 33 vehicles have been recovered on the basis of the disclosure by the arrested accused, Parveen. The prime accused, Sagar, is on the run. Three more accused arrested in the case are juveniles.
The police had arrested 21-year-old Parveen, alias Gottu, a resident of the Sector 25 colony. He disclosed that he had stolen a Maruti 800 car in Sector 15, Chandigarh, and it had been kept at the residence of his relative in UP. The police have sent the three juveniles arrested in the case to the juvenile home.
The police recovered eight cars, a three-wheeler, 18 motorcycles, six scooters and 18 mobile phones on the basis of the disclosure by the accused.
The prime accused, Sagar, who is on the run, is also involved in cases of robbery and snatching in the city.
The police said efforts were on to nab Sagar.
Of the 33 vehicles, FIRs have been found to have been lodged only in the case of nine vehicles at various police stations. The police are verifying the owners of the remaining vehicles and are trying to ascertain when these were stolen.
Inspector Narinder Patial, SHO of the Sector 11 police station, said the modus operandi of the accused was that they used to steal vehicles from different places in the city and dispose these of by dismantling the parts and selling these to scrap dealers.
The accused were drug addicts and used these vehicles for carrying out snatchings and robberies.
