Gurpurab Greetings

Dear Sadh Sangat Ji

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Sikhpoint.com extends to you, the most wholesome wishes on the eve of Shahidi Divas of The Ninth Nanak, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, being commemorated on 24th November this year.

'Hind Di Chaadar' Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was martyred on this date at Chandni Chowk, Delhi by then Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, for his perseverance to save the basic human right of Hindu community in particular and The Humanity in general, of practicing any faith freely without interference or duress.

Emperor Aurangzeb was a Mughal Ruler who ruled on The Delhi Takht for 49 years, from 1658 to 1707, proving to be the opposite of what his forefathers like Emperor Akbar had preached – ‘Religious Freedom for all’. As soon as he came to power, he started converting Non-Muslims to Muslim faith forcibly, especially Hindus.

A group of Kashmiri Pandits led by Pandit Kirpa Ram from Kashmir came to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in early 1675 AD to seek his help in this acute hour. Guru Ji told Pandits that the need of the hour was the sacrifice of a great soul. On hearing this, 8 year old Bal Gobind Rai, who was sitting in the congregation, said," There would be no one else as great as you dear father, for this cause !" Guru Ji then decided to give away his life to save the Hindu Community from the terror of Aurangzeb.

Guru Ji was arrested and brought to Delhi for conversion to Muslim Faith by Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb tried every trick to make the Guru bend, but Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was firm on his stand and stuck to Guru Nanak Dev's Path.

Then on 24th November 1675 AD, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was beheaded by a Muslim executioner Sayyed Jalal-Ud-Din of Samana (who was later killed by Banda Singh Bahadur) on the command of Aurangzeb. Gurudwara Sees Ganj Sahib stands at the site of the martyrdom now. Bhai Jeevan Singh (ranghretta, guru ka beta) delivered The Head of the Guru to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Anandpur Sahib and the body was cremated at Delhi itself by Bhai Lakhhi Shah. Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib stands now at the site of cremation.

The Tenth Nanak, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji has narrated the sacrifice of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji viz.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's was a sacrifice for the whole humanity in a time of sheer chaos and terror personified by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Apart from his divine end, depicting Sikh Philosophy of equality for everyone, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji also contributed a lot to The Sikh Faith and the human history through his Baani included in Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Guru Ji visited many parts of India and spread the message of 'Waheguru'. Anandpur Sahib was also founded by Guru Sahib. He was very much instrumental in bringing The Hill Kings of Himachal Pradesh and Gadhwal area into peace with each other. This way, he also gave a message of unity to Indian People.

It is very sad that in spite of so great a sacrifice by Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji to save the honor of the Hindu community in particular and the humanity in general, some Hindu fundamentalists and extremists are propagating that the sacrifice was only due to some personal clashes with The Mughal Empire. It is to be noted that the history itself is evidence that Sikhs had no personal malice toward The Mughals at this juncture, Guru Ji gave his life only for the protection of a faith that was being immorally eliminated. The Sikh Community should put a step forward to oppose such propaganda, which is staining Guru Ji’s sacred sacrifice.

The Sikh mind-set has to get to a position of consciousness where he or she will be able to say that: "I as a Sikh am ready to die to protect the right of the people of all faiths".

This year, celebrate the Gurpurab with the same glory and enthusiasm as always and wish your near and dear ones by sending e-cards from Sikhpoint.com and spread among the humanity, the message of Guru Sahib. May Guru shower his blessings upon all of us to understand the significance of the Gurpurabs and help us live our lives in accordance with the Gurmat so that we could all gain the virtue of celebrating all the Gurpurabs at the Zenith of spiritual level.

Have a Happy and Prosperous Gurpurab.
Send E-Greetings on Guru Ji's Gurpurab.
