Husband and mother-in-law of a woman who immolated herself have been arrested by the police here after her father lodged a complaint that she was being harassed by the in-laws for dowry.
It is learned that deceased Anju immolated herself at her Pucca Bag residence. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to her home and brought her to civil hospital in a badly condition. She was declared brought dead. SHO Nirmal Singh said her father Ajmer Singh told police that she was being harassed by her husband and in-laws ever since after her marriage 11 months back and at one point of time, had even left her in-laws' home and started staying with her parents.
However, some common friends attempted rapprochement and she again started staying with her husband but her harassment continued. Tormented, she committed suicide on Friday. Police have arrested her husband Chetan and mother-in-law Kiran Rani after registering a case under Section 304-B of IPC.
