Patiala August 9:
After remaining adamant for more than 24 hours on the ban on outsideeatables, the Patiala Central Jail administration on Thursday agreed to allow supply of these by relatives of inmates lodged here following their hunger strike on Wednesday in this regard.
As per sources, though the jail administration allowed some selected items inside the jail on Thursday morning, all 1,400 prisoners remained adamant and wanted the supply of all things to be opened as had been happening in the past.
"When no one turned up for dinner on Thursday evening, SP Jail Jiwan Garg called three inmates and held a meeting. No one was ready to share the details of the meeting," sources said and added that at the meeting the administration announced that they would conduct search of all things at least thrice before giving these to inmates. The strike was then withdrawn.
"Since we withdrew our strike after the manual time, we did not get food last night. But took full meal in the morning," said Gurmaje Singh, an inmate who has come to local court for hearing. The SP, jails, confirmed the development.
