Is a Union Cabinet Minister’s job a part time job in India?. It is a serious question that should be answered by the authorities at the Centre as the people of this country are wondering over how casually the Ministers are taking their job.
The Union Agriculture and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sharad Pawar has taken over as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). But, he is unperturbed over the way how he will be doing justice to both the jobs, both of which demands a full time attention.
Pawar has said he will have to visit the Dubai headquarters 3-4 days in a month but it will not affect his work as a minister. As Dubai works on Saturdays and Sundays, so generally he will spend 3-4 days in a month. It’s a matter of a two-hour flight, so there won’t be any difficulty, he says.
But, he is justifying his dual job only to cling on to both the powers as he does not want to leave both of them. While his penchant for cricket is well known, he is equally an astute politician in Indian politics.
But, the question is, will he be able to do justice?. Especially at a time when the country is reeling under unprecedented price rise. The prices of all the items, including the essential items, have hit the roof. So, it needs an extended attention to bring down the prices of essential commodities.
It is unfortunate that instead of concentrating on how to bring down the prices of essential commodities, Pawar is interested in playing politics with cricket.
I think he is doing justice to the old saying, ‘While Rome is burning, the king is playing guitar’.
