Chennai: Pakistan might be India's arch rivals, but their victory over Australia has been applauded by fans here in Chennai.

The Chennai crowd is considered the most knowledgeable and appreciative in the country. Various comments could be heard in and around the stadium over Pakistan's victory. Some were so inspiring that if any Pakistan player had heard them, they may be inspired enough to go on and win the World Cup.

Interestingly, comments from the common man were much better than from former cricketers who preferred to back their nation.

Conditions to win

"Pakistan can only win if there are obstacles ahead of them and are snubbed. Only then will they unite and play," remarked a volunteer. It was followed by a huge debate with many more justifying his remark.

"Pakistan won the Twenty20 World Cup because India refused to pick their players for the Indian Premier League and they were out to prove to the world that their players are the best Twenty20 players," he added. It was interesting to see everyone nodding with approval, as another added: "Yes. Just see they may carry the World Cup to Pakistan for having denied them to be the hosts.

"It will be a big blow to India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh who ditched them from being hosts."

Meanwhile, a female listening to them, said: "If India does not win, I want Pakistan to win. They were written off as the worst team before coming here. Look at the way they play. The spirit with which they play is something every nation should try and copy."
