FILLING UP OF VACANCIES WILL BE TOP PRIORITY: VC

Faridkot November 6:
Attempt should be made to bring up the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences not in the country alone but also on the world map so that the university could render best possible services in the field of health.
This assurance was given by Dr Shaminder Singh Shergill, the newly-appointed vice-chancellor of the university, at a press conference here. Shergill said he would do his best to fill up the backlog of vacancies in the university in consultation with the state government. He added that only those doctors would be considered for appointment in the university, who were willing to serve the medical college in the area.
He revealed that the shortage of medical teachers was not only in the state but in the whole country. Soon he would find the root cause of the shortage and take appropriate steps, Shergill added. The vice-chancellor emphasised that the standard of medical education had to be improved further on priority basis after overcoming the problems coming in the way.
To a question about recently-held PMT paper scam, Shergill said such scams were probably due to the system failure in the university, which would be improved after thorough investigation so that such scams were not repeated. He disclosed that construction of the university building would be started soon with the help of state government. Shergill also requested the state government to release enough funds to provide better medical services to the public.
