Jaundice cases are declining with hospitals reporting about 18 to 23 cases now as against 60 in January-end.
The jaundice scare has forced people to visit not only the IGMC, Ripon, and other private hospitals, but also to seek treatment from quacks.
As many as 23 cases tested positive for jaundice at the IGMC, taking the total number to 1,248 since December 25, said health officials.
Among the patients were Army and administrative officers, doctors and even IPH engineers. Most of them live in New Shimla and Kusumpti which get water from Ashwani Khud, said health officials.
Former Army officers have blamed the Irrigation and Public Health Department and the Shimla Municipal Corporation for the outbreak.
“I have posted my comment on the social media as it is the responsibility of the Mayor to ensure clean water”, said a retired Brigadier, who recovered from jaundice.
Shimla Mayor Sanjay Chauhan said as they detected that Ashwani Khud water was contaminated, they stopped its supply. “We will not take its water till it is cleared by the virology lab”, he added.
