Ferozpur December 30:
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal called upon the Centre to evolve a special package for the development of border areas of the state to compensate the people which had been badly affected due to Indo-Pak war since 1947.
"People of the border areas be it Ferozepur, Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts, had suffered the brunt of external aggression immensely across the Indo-Pak border as compared to the other parts of the country," said Mr Badal, while addressing public rallies at Talwandi Bhai, Ferozepur Cantt and Ferozepur City as a part of his 'Vikas Yatra' (development tour) to cover all the assembly constituencies in the state.
The Centre should enhance financial grant for the cities and towns of the state under Border Area Development Project, he said. On the occasion, Mr Badal gave away cheques of Rs 2 crore each for the Municipal Council of Talwandi Bhai and Ferozepur Cantt and Rs 3 crore for Ferozepur City.
He also announced a grant of Rs 1 crore for Mudhki Municipal Council and Rs 25 lakh for the construction of sub-tehsil complex at Talwandi Bhai and Rs 3 crore for the various development projects and schemes in the villages of Talwandi Bhai. He announced grant of Rs 42.05 crore for the construction of 21 KM of new roads and repair of 139 KM roads within Ferozepur Cantt Assembly constituency. The Chief Minister also gave a cheque of Rs 1 crore to Commissioner Ferozepur Division-cum-Chairman Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Committee Hussainiwala for the beautification of the memorial site. Mr Badal acceded to the long pending demand of the people of this area to extend the facility of bestowing property ownership rights to the inhabitants of Talwandi Bhai who had been earlier left out under this scheme and a Government College at Ferozepur Cantt which would be constructed by the end of next fiscal.
The Chief Minister also announced to confer ownership rights to the occupants who had already constructed houses on the panchayat land as per the state government policy and the abolition of Ferozepur Cantt area.
