‘CROPS DAMAGED IN ONLY TWO DISTRICTS’

Chandigarh July 14:
Reports and pictures of the heavy incessant rain in Punjab have been appearing everyday in the media. The heavy pre-monsoon showers followed by strong bouts of rain have left several parts inundated and damaged acres of crop.
However, according to records, only two Punjab districts, including Muktsar, in which the constituency of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal falls, were affected by the rains. Sources said, a report in this regard prepared by the revenue department has been sent to the union government for compensation.
The report states that crop area affected due to the rains till June this year is 6108 acres in two districts of Muktsar and Faridkot. The report by the department is, however, silent on the damage in other parts. According to sources, the report could ensure a compensation of about Rs 62 lakh to people who have been affected by rains.
The report makes a mention of as many as 71 houses in the districts which have been damaged and need to be compensated for. It has valued the damage to the houses at Rs 6.12 lakh, sources said.
