Dubai: India's legendary wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani inspired budding cricketers of two of the most famous cricket academies in the UAE through short motivational talks.

The star cricketer who has the reputation of being India's finest wicketkeeper played in 88 Test matches and 49 One-dayers before hanging his boots.

He inspired the trainees at the G Force Cricket Academy, who are the winners of the Inter Academy cricket tournament, and Sharjah's Cricket Academy.

"Plan every match and make everyone proud through your performance," he told the trainees at the Al Jadaf's G Force Academy ground.

Serious practice

Kirmani also asked the youngsters to take up net practice seriously. "It is important to focus on what you want to play and even during net practice try and settle down before playing the shots," he said.

Kirmani also asked all the cricketers to plan even the day before the match and not to got out and play without any preparation.

Though Kirmani is 61 years old now, he looked as fit as a youngster. Known for his agility and diving catches, he played a key role in India's 1983 World Cup triumph in England. He produced 160 catches and 38 stumpings in Test career.

Kirmani was impressed with the Sharjah Cricket Academy facilities at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It was a ground in which he had played some fine knocks and taken some spectacular catches for India.
