Shikhar Dhawan has requested to be released from India's squad for the first three of five One-Day Internationals against Australia to attend to his unwell wife, the BCCI announced on Thursday (September 14).

The selection committee decided against naming a replacement for Dhawan for the series that is due to kick-off in Chennai on September 17.

The left-hander has been in prime form since the beginning of the Champions Trophy. He amassed the most runs in the Test series in Sri Lanka with 358 in four innings at 89.50, earning him the award for the Man of the Series, before backing it up with a 132 in the opening one-dayer of the five-match series.

He, however, had to return home from Sri Lanka to miss the final one-dayer and the one-off T20I to attend to his ailing mother.

The first three ODIs against Australia will be played in Chennai, Kolkata and Indore. The teams then travel to Bangalore and Nagpur for the final two games, before they take part in a three-match T20I series.

India squad for first 3 ODIs: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami.
