A herbal viagra, developed by a state-run firm TAMPCOL, will soon be available in the market with a price tag of Rs 50 for a 100 gram

pack, a company official has said.

Tamil Nadu Medicinal Plant Farms and Herbal Medicines Corporation Limited (TAMPCOL) has claimed to have developed an herbal viagra called 'Laboob Sageer' to increase libido in old age and treat impotency and premature ejaculation.

'Laboob Sageer' is billed as a substitute for the costly viagra which is at present available in the market for Rs 150 for a 100 mg pack.

The herbal drug, which has been developed using an ancient 'Sastric' Unani formulation, has "no side effects" and would be priced at Rs 50 for a 100 gm pack, TAMPCOL Marketing Manager G Ramanathan told PTI here.

"It (the drug) has already been tested on patients and certified by our doctors. We have also received a drug licence from the Director of Drugs Control after the clearance by a technical committee," Ramanathan said.

The company has started commercial production of the drug at its Alathur factory. To start with, two tonnes of the drug would be produced and it would hit the market across the country in two weeks, Ramanathan said adding, "Already we have received enquiries from Dubai and London and are booking orders."

Ramanathan said the company would start regular exports depending on the volume of orders.

The indigenous herbal rejuvenator is a combination of time-tested herbs, dry fruits, seeds, roots of special herbs, which are known to increase the production of sperm count, corrects its motility and viscosity. It is good nervine tonic and also a good stimulant, he said.

As it contains many medicines and dry fruits, the drug is named as 'Laboob', meaning dry fruits. While 'Sageer' acts as an aphrodisiac, rejuvenator and a general tonic.

Some of the ingredients in the drug like khaskhas and tukhm khurfa act as a sedative that exerts soothing effect by lowering functional activity, he said.

Apart from TAMPCOL's hair oil, its flagship product, the company manufactures 62 Siddha, 14 Ayurveda and seven Unani medicines and supplies them to the state government hospitals.

The company also supplies its herbal products to others like the city-based National Institute of Siddha, Union Territory of Puducherry, Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) clinics and Tamil Nadu electricity Board and municipalities, Ramanathan said.
