I have been living in Australia for over 10 years now. Majority of my friends here are of British ancestry. To be honest, they don't know much about Indians, let alone Sikhism. Singh is the second most common name after Smith in the City of Whittlesea, where I live. A lot of people have asked me why there were so many Singhs in Melbourne. Were we all related? Lately I have started explaining the idea behind Sikhism, the last name being Singh, Kaur for females, how it is one of the most modern and tolerant religion in the modern world. It truly makes me very proud of my roots. I think we should all take a lot of pride being Sikhs. I m not asking anyone to preach it, however do take time to explain to others what we stand for.
