Pak sells Gurudwara land to army in 2009
Islamabad: In a breaking news development, the Pakistan Army has reportedly grabbed the land here meant for the construction of Sikh Gurudwaras.

The minority community here is distraught as the Army sold off 150 acres of land that belongs to the Sikhs of Lahore, as per a latest media report.

Reports also state that the land, which was allegedly sold cheaply to Pak defence authorities, is actually worth millions of rupees. The Sikh community is planning to retaliate by appealing in a court of law to step in and prevent the ‘illegal’ land grab.

However, the chairman of Pakistan’s Evacuee Trust, Asif Hashmi, while confirming the sale, decried reports stating that the land belongs to any individual or the Gurudwara Deh in Lahore.

The sale violates Pakistan’s law on selling religious land.
Meanwhile, the SGPC in India is said to have contacted President Asif Ali Zardari asking for his direct intervention in the case.

India to raise gurdwara land transfer with Pakistan ... damm whyyyyyyy,,, its their internal matters let them solve:wall

New Delhi: India will take up with Pakistan the reported transfer of 150 acres of gurdwara land in Lahore for a military housing project, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said Friday.

"We will certainly take it up with the concerned authorities in Pakistan," Krishna said in the Rajya Sabha after S.S. Ahluwalia of the Bharatiya Janata Party raised the issue during Zero Hour.

"The member has raised a very important issue. I share his concern and the concern of the house," Krishna added.

Protesting against the Pakistani government's move, Ahluwalia said: "Next they will sell Panja Sahib (one of the few Sikh gurdwaras in Pakistan), where there is still the hand imprint of first Sikh guru Guru Nanak."

"The government should summon the Pakistani ambassador and take a commitment that the property of minorities like Sikh, Hindus and Sindhis will be protected."

Sikhs in Pakistan protest against plaza construction on gurdwara land
Lahore, Mar 24 2010(ANI): Sikhs in Pakistan will stage a protest in Lahore on Friday over the construction of a plaza on gurdwara land.
They will stage a sit-in in front of the Punjab Assembly for two hours against the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) administration, Sikh leaders told The Express Tribune.

Former Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Perbandhak Committee (PSGPC) President Sardar Bishon Singh said that if the government failed to stop the construction of a plaza over Gurdwara Deewan Khana, Indian Sikhs would join their protest and send delegations to Pakistan to record their disapproval.

He said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had met an Indian Sikh delegation led by Shiromani Gurdwara Perbandhak Committee (SGPC) representative Sardar Swinder Singh Doblia on November 27, 2010, and then told the ETPB to stop the construction of the plaza on the land.

The EPTB had complied with the order at that time, but a part of the gurdwara was demolished and the construction was resumed on March 19, he added.

Singh pointed out that if religious sites were not protected in the country, it would be a violation of the Constitution besides being an international embarrassment for Pakistan.

Meanwhile, EPTB chairman Asif Hashmi said that the deal to build a plaza on the gurdwara land had been struck with the nine tenants, who had temporary shops near the gurdwara for many years, before he took office.

He admitted that the site had religious significance for the Sikh community, adding that he would cancel the deal between the tenants and his department and return the amounts paid by the tenants as part of the deal.

And one comment from paks site/media page regarding to this--
Good. There less than 50,000 Sikhs in Pakistan, less than 0.01% of Pakistan's population. Why does Pakistan need so much land for Sikh Gurudwaras when theres hardly any Sikhs in Pakistan.
Pakistan army can make good use of this land to protect majority of Pakistanis.
