Word has it that Nikon will release the new Nikon D800 DSLR on November 24, 2011.

The new D800 will pack 36 megapixels on a full frame FX sensor, and essentially forgo advances in low-light performance in order to produce a medium-cost studio camera instead of a lower-cost prosumer one.

In addition to the model name and number of megapixels, some other details include: 4fps shooting, 1080/30p video recording, support for both CF and SD, and a shutter rated for 200K shots.

The Nikon D800 will end up being like a smaller version of the D3x with the likelihood of some downgrades.

The rumored $4000 price puts it out of most enthusiasts’ reach, and the high megapixel count makes it less practical for sports and field photography.
